So I'm getting into vector graphic design... and here is my first attempt at a human. Why is this so much more difficult than a cupcake or a kitty cat? This girl is a good start, and I'm not frustrated quite yet, but as you can clearly see, she has NO EXPRESSION. It's like starring at a... well... a drawing. I want her to be alive and have personality, expression, emotion. But I haven't the first clue how to do it. I'm not an artist. I'm just a mom with a hobby. Any suggestions?

I LOVE your drawings! Especially the ones from during staff meetings! :) LOL You ARE an artist!!!! Don't ever tell yoursellf you are not. About making the human more alive... hmmm. I am not able to draw AT ALL! So I guess I am no help there. I do know though, that a lot can be expressed through the eyes... so maybe start there. and what is vector drawing???

I really like your work. She's not that bad, kinda has that bored-but-still-sexy look going on, lol. And your blog designs are amazing. I hope to soon be a satisfied customer.

Well lets see...(had to ask my husband about vetor drawing)my cards are sort of vector drawings being that I draw them by hand put them in the computer and then work with them a little bit but I have never been good at drawing people (believe me I tried) but I am with the first post the eyes and the mouth are where a lot of exspresion come from so I say start there.

Lindsey - I think she looks great! I know that to make it not look as "flat" you're going to want to shade and use gradients.

Did you use a tablet or did you just draw in AI with your mouse?

See I know a little about this design stuff - but leave it to pros like you because I cannot for the life of me figure out CSS!

I love your style! I think you've just been looking at it too long, lol. The only thing I can think is that if the lips were smaller or a little different maybe she wouldn't look as pouty - but I think it's just a style thing. :-) So much fun, I can't wait to see what else you come up with! And I want to know how to do it... lol

I just dropped by from "Our Family Blog" and I love the look you created.

I actually think this drawing is pretty cute. She looks a bit like a deer caught in the head lights. :)

That is how I would look if you asked me to fix that?

I like her, especially the hair and eyes.

I'm a graphic designer as well, and I can tell you that you ARE an artist! I've been doing vector illustration for years, and I STILL can't draw people. Not to save my life! But you're making me want to pick up the mouse and try again :) She is a cute little lady. Her mouth seems a little taut, so try working on a smile. Easier said than done, I know :) And perhaps tilting her head a little will make her seem more natural than looking at her straight on.
